Were you offshore or land? Offshore, as far as I know, only those with offshore experience are being hired. Hiring is down, and only experienced need apply anywhere.

Also, where are you willing to work? Assuming you have all the experience, credentials, qualifications needed for offshore, Brazil is still doing testing. Don't think they'll be drilling for a while yet, but start investigating. Only big find of late, and technically very difficult, so they will need the very top people in the field, if you hold such qualifications.

Try the oilfield contract personnel companies. They may send you to overseas & remote locations, but it's work, and that is scarce now. Is Epic still in Houston? Sorry, I don't recall all of them now anymore.

The oil companies have the government in their pockets so they don't have to pay attention to silly safety laws. Besides safety training would cut into their equally massive pay packets for their CEOs and senior management.

It is because of all of the new employees that they are hiring right know. I snapped cable would of been pretty hard to prevent. However with the uses of cables you are required to inspect them daily. Also part of the reason is the overall Osha program while it has reduced on the job fatalities many companies do not always follow the rules,

Also part of the reason is the overall Osha program even as it has cut-rate on the job fatalities many companies do not permanently follow the rules,

In this context I have no idea. Otherwise, workers on oil rigs have often been referred to as "roughnecks".
